Gray-faced buzzard

Characteristics

The gray-faced buzzard has a black beak and a generally brown body. It has white eyebrows and gray cheeks and is red-brown from the forehead to the back of the head and the nape with dark vertical spots. Its back is generally brown.
Habits: The gray-faced buzzard often rests on branches that are not far from the ground and mostly feeds on insects.
Transit/Common, Winter/Rare; Body length: 48 cm
Birdwatching period: March-April, September-October

Distribution

Large numbers of gray-faced buzzards transit through the Hengchun Peninsula in the fall and a few through the mountains. Gaomei Wetlands is one of their transit routes every spring and fall. The gray-faced buzzard is also called as the “national day bird”, “southward eagle”, and “Qingming bird”.
